*** YET ANOTHER UPDATE JULY 2nd 2007 ***
This is going to be renamed the magic reappearing box. After several reports that it was missing, the box was retired mid-June. Amazingly, it showed up about a week ago exposed and slightly damaged. But still going strong, and with a couple friendly notes in the logbook from geocachers that mistakenly found it. It's now back in it's original location, back on the active list, and ready to go. Hopefully it will stay put this time.

The Brick Pond Letterbox is located at Brick Pond Nature Preserve in Owego NY. Although the walking trails are not in as great shape as they used to be, with a sturdy set of shoes, long pants, and bug spray, you'll still be able to walk the path around the ponds and enjoy the wildlife that calls it home.

Please note: there is NO stamp pad in the box, so please plan on bringing one along

To get to Brick Pond:
Take Rt. 17 to Owego Exit (65) and follow signs to 17C West.
Drive along 17C West until you get to the second traffic light. Turn right (it's the only way you can go)
Continue down this road until you see the placard for Brick Pond on your right. There is a small parking area that you can leave your car at.

To get to the Brick Pond Letterbox:
1. Pass behind the Brick Pond placard and take the trail to your left.
2. Continue along this trail until you come to a "land bridge" that passes over the water, dividing the pond into two seperate sections. If you have small children or pets, HOLD ON TO THEM!!! It's a fairly broad path to walk across, but there is water on both sides.
3. Once you've crossed over the water, continue along the path. If you see a wooden bench to your left, you're on the right track! From this point the trail gets harder to follow due to lack of trail maintenence, but it's still fairly easy to pick out the paths.
4. Continue until you see a large bluebird box on the ground marked with a #3. At this point the trail splits. You can go either way as it reconnects, but the right trail towards the water is easier to navigate. When the paths reconnect, continue walking.
5. As you progress, you'll come to a spot where the trail splits in 3 different directions (the left branch of the split is a few paces before the rest of the split). Take the middle path into what looks like a very overgrown area.
6. Approximately 12 paces along this path is a large fallen tree lying across the path. If you follow the tree to the "Y", Brick Pond Letterbox is hiding underneath.

Please be careful when removing and replacing ... on nice days these walking paths are pretty well used! Be sure and conceal the box carefully when you return it!
