Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: 100 yards
Status of Letterbox: RETIRED
The "Fire in the Hole" letterbox is located in a Harris County Pocket Park, along Cypress Creek. The park has a paved walking path through it, and access to some great biking trails along Cypress Creek.
Directions:
From Hwy 290 heading out of Houston, Turn right on Eldridge. Follow Eldridge past Hwy 1960 until you come to Cypress North Houston. Turn left and go 2 second street on right. Turn right on W. Shadow Lake. Next, turn right on Shadow Lake Dr. E. Continue to end. As road curves left, go straight to dead end and park on the right (should see park sign).
To the Letterbox:
Walk through the gate and take the paved path left at the first intersection. Keep going, as the path snakes around. You will pass a green trash can on the right. Soon you will see a double pipe going under the path. Stand on the right side, above pipe, on the cement. Go west at 250 degrees, through the gully and up the hill to the group of pine trees. Go to the one on the right, with the Sweetgum tree to its left. The letterbox is between these 2 trees, at base, covered with pine needles and a cement rock. Please cover well.
