Wilber Park, Oneonta, NY

**UPDATE: All boxes are missing

This letterbox series is in honor of the beloved children’s book Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. In this story of friendship, Wilbur the pig is saved by his human friend Fern and moves to a farm where he soon makes the acquaintance of a talented spider named Charlotte and a crafty rat named Templeton. Wise Charlotte uses her resources to save Wilbur from a terrible end and also teaches him about the simple things in life and the importance of friendship.

Wilber Park is located at Center and Taft Streets in Oneonta. Parking is available in the back of the park, however the first box is located near the front portion and clues are based off the main entrance. Please remember to cover all boxes thoroughly to protect from unwanted attention!

1. Charlotte, “Humble” : (MISSING)

Enter Wilber Park using the pedestrian trail by the main entrance. Follow this trail in a western direction across the park and leave the trail as it turns north. Continue heading west across the grass and walk towards the large pines at the edge of the park. Find the large fallen pine and follow it to its end. Walk approximately 32 steps at 280 degrees to the base of a hollow log, perched near the edge of the cliff. Peak inside and under the bark to find Charlotte spinning her web.

2. Templeton, “Radiant” :

Leave the pines and head in a northerly direction, walking along the edge of the cliff towards the playground. Continue past the shelter and onto a paved path, which leads into a forested portion of the park. Pass a yellow guardrail and follow the trail for some time, until you reach a gate. As you walk towards the gate you will notice a narrow stone trail. Head south on this new trail and look for a small stone bridge. From the top of the bridge, mark 130 degrees and take about 40 steps up the hill and find a cluster of three large and two small trees near the edge of the park. Look behind this cluster to find Templeton busy scurrying about for some new inspiration for Charlotte’s web.

3. Fern, “Terrific” :

Return to the stone path and continue heading south. Turn left at the first intersection and continue heading southward. Stop in the middle of the third intersection and take 22 steps at 160 degrees to find Wilbur’s good friend, Fern, hidden amongst some mossy logs.

4. Wilbur, “Some Pig” :

Back at the intersection you will go west towards the yellow guardrail, pass it, and choose the paved path to your left. Pass the shelter and leave the forested area, returning to the main drive of the park. Follow the red picket fence on your right and find the sixth fence post. Look across the path and spot a large felled tree. You will find Wilbur sunning himself on the far side of the tree, nearer to the base.
