This letterbox is found in Marion, OH at the Harding Memorial at the corners of Vernon Heights Blvd. and Delaware Ave. (St. Rt. 423). Pull into the small parking lot at the front of the monument. Follow the sidewalk around until you are walking towards the front of the memorial. Stop and check out the round marble display of plaques, telling of President Harding's life and this monument to him. Pivot 90 degrees to the left and follow the sidewalk around the side of the monument. When you get to the SW back corner, stop. Pivot 90 degrees to the left again. There should be a medium sized tree on your left and a line of bushes on your right. Start walking, keeping the bushes on your right. Go 43 steps. You will pass under the branch of a large tree that would be perfect for a tire swing. After 43 steps, pivot 90 degrees to the right. Go 8 steps, stop and look to your right. You will see a tree with warts. What you are seeking is where the lightning struck, about 5 1/2 feet off the ground. Please be descrete as there are usually people around who might see you. When finished stamping, please seal everything tightly and rehide carefully, placing the bark back over the box. Before leaving, make sure to climb the monument steps in the front to see President and Mrs. Hardings' final resting place.
