Approximately 1/4 mile round trip.

Mountain men were among the first to explore and map the Great West. They traveled throughout the west in search of pelts, and opened trails and discovered mountain passes that soon led to the great Westward Movement.

The impact of the mountain men was far reaching. Their relentless fur trapping caused the near extinction of many animals. The Indians' lifestyle was significantly changed through contact with mountain men and with later settlers. Most important, by sharing their knowledge of the West, the mountain men opened the way for the farmer, miner, rancher and timber men to settle and conquer the vast new land.

In order to determine the street name to go to, count the number of times “mountain” appears in the information above and multiply that number by five, then subtract the box number in the title. Follow this road eastward until it dead ends and park along the road side.

CLUES: From the dead end road, there is a trail that leads straight up the hill. Follow it up to the dirt road. On the way up, you’ll pass a concrete chunk on the right. At the dirt road, turn right and on the right side of the road is a lone tree. Check at the base for the small box.
