Drive straight in and park in the beach parking lot. Look for the playground equipment where Runty started his trip.

In Ohio there was an eastern chipmunk that was abducted by aliens. His name was Runty, he was 5 years old, and he lived in a tree with his acorns in the forest. One night he saw a big green light by an oak tree. He got suspicious and wandered towards the green light. Since Runty is an very curious chipmunk he went right under the green light. The little saucer picked him up. At that moment all he could think of is aliens. Then they dropped him off. He watched the space ship as it headed off. He watched to see it land on top of a great big hill. He looked around and found he was on top of playground equipment. Some people were talking nearby about how much they loved camping here at Mauthe Lake. They also said they saw a strange light at Dundee Mountain and pointed in the same direction the aliens went after they dropped Runty off ! Runty started to look around to find shelter. In the cave of the playground he found a dinosaur skeleton. Count how many bones were in it’s tail.? _____________ Runty decided not to stay here as too many people were around. He headed toward the lake and took the paved path to the right. He came to a sign about the lake and found some very interesting information about this area. He went a short distance and found a fishing pier. As he scampered out on the pier he counted holes for holding fishing poles. How many holes did Runty find on the pier?_________ Runty came off the pier and continued on the path around the lake which now turned to gravel and dirt. He came to a another sign saying Tamarack Circle Trail. Continuing on the trail closest to the lake Runty looked for a spot to hide. He went through a Tamarack Swamp and decided it was too wet. He went over a bridge, sat on a bench to catch his breath, then stumbled on a rock in the middle of the trail. He continued on through a tunnel of pines until he came to a T in the trail and saw a building through the trees. He went for a look and found restrooms. Further up he saw the “Forest Headquarters” office and ranger station. He went back to the trail as there was too much activity here. He crossed a road and found another interesting rock about Rief, how many years of age are shown on the plaque?__________ Runty continued down the trail and found a trail marker with the number 6 on it.

(*we were told this post was missing and walked the trail and could not locate it. If you keep an eye on the Left you should still be able to locate Runty. We will update clues as soon as possible)

From this trail marker he continued ______________paces (adult paces not chipmunk!).

Paces = Ribs__________ + Fishing Holes on Pier___________ - Runty’s age_____________- years on Rief’s age one plaque_________ = _________________paces.

On his left he saw a nice pile of logs and scurried under the smallest log atop the pile. He has been hiding there ever since.

Note: This stamp and the story was created by our youngest daughter when she was 9. We doctored it as we added in the clues. (She is now 11 and we finally placed her story and stamp.)
