The tragic history that gives Trail of Tears State Park its name is a memorial to the Cherokee Indians that lost thier lives in a forced relocation.

From I-55 take the Fruitland exit to Route 61 north then on 177 to the Trail of Tears Visitor Center. Pick up a trail map and follow the directions to Lake Boutin.

FROM THE LAKE BOUTIN PARKING LOT
STAND AT A BUILDING WITH A THRONE
BUILT FOR A KING AND A QUEEN

SHOOT A MAGNETIC READING 0F 340 DEGREES
FROM THE THRONE SITE AND FOLLOW THIS
LINE TO A SIGN WITH A BOAT ON IT

NOW SHOOT A READING OF 280 DEGREES
AND FOLLOW THIS LINE TO A TREE
WITH BARBED WIRE
THAT'S WRAPPED IN A LOOP
LIKE A WHEEL OR A TIRE

AT THE BASE OF THE TREE
UNDER A ROCK AND SOME DEBRIS
LIFT IT UP AND LOOK
WHERE THE LETTERBOX BE
