This is a Tribute to The Grace Memorial Bridge. History:
The need for a crossing of the Cooper River and Town Creek had been long standing.
In 1928 John P. Grace got together with H.M Byllesby and Company of Chicago for finacial backing. The 2.71 mile bridge, was named the Grace Memorial Bridge and was built in just 17 months, at a total cost of approximately $6 million. It was opend with a 3 day celebration on Aug 8, 1929. The main span of the bridge was 1050 feet between supports, wich made it the fith longest in the world, and it was 150 feet above the river and 15 feet higher than the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.
The New Cooper River Bridge is a cable stay span and spans 1,556 feet. It has a 1,00 foot wide channel and a vertical clearance of 186 feet.
Clues:
A Clear view of these 3 bridge is an awsome sight, and one that is ever changing as the two older bridges, the Pearman, the Grace continue to be demolished a piece at a time. I have a favorite little park where a nice treasure awaits any who read this journal entry and fallow the clues!
Journal Entry- Date: April 1, 2006
We had intended just to stop by for a walk and to have a small picnic late one afternoon. But, the view was so nice and the weather perfect that we had to grab our " beach blankets" and cuddle up for the night for after all, this park is known for it's " Sunrise " vistas as you especaily can straight across the bay, and see the new and old Cooper River Bridges.
When we arrived at the park, next to the yahet club we started to stroll straight ahead toward the point overlooking the water. The view from the old standing "smoke stack" was breath taking! We had to sit for a while on the bench we found, to the right of the chimney, and just inhale the salty sea air as if blew threw our hair. We then found a quiet secluded spot to spend the night, awaiting the park's namesake to accur. Atef a wonderful night's rest, we were again on the bench to see the orange and red colors in the sky. We were now famished, so we walked to the Pavillion to the left of the chimney we had our breakfast picnic. When were done, we heard the sound of voices and a ball being hit back and forth on a court through the woods. As we were approaching the sound but not really seeing the action, we were walking in a clearing, turned right walked 6 steps between the pond and the woods and then went North East into the woods under low branches and vines. On the left we came to a pile of forgotton concrete slab and bricks. As we thought about the beautiful view just past the small woods we had to leave a secret trasure that would beckon us back and others who listen for the secret calls of an LBX.

Let us know when you find our box of Sun shine. Please hide back well, this is a favoret park to other, on lookers.
