The Village of Altamont's Bozenkill Park is a multi-use, family friendly park located in the Village of Altamont. A $5.00 parking fee is required only during summer months, when the pool is open. To get to the park, go west on Rte. 20, through the Rte. 155 intersection until reaching Route 146 (a left at your third traffic light after the intersection). Stay on Rte. 146 about 5.3 miles, going through Guilderland Center. Gun Club Road is on your right. Go about .3 miles and the park is to your right.
Park in the large parking lot, walking towards the pavilion. A blacktop sidewalk is to the left, take it to the end. You will be facing a chain-link fence, follow it to the right, until you come upon a crushed stone road/path. Take this into the wooded area.
You will see a marker for the red rectangle path. Going down the hill, this path splits (you'll see a blue triangle marker on right), stay to the left. After the path meanders to the left(by a red arrow painted on a tree) then right, it splits again. Take a right here, picking up the blue triangle path. Follow that path until you pass a blue triangle painted on a tree, then come upon a marble bench. At the bench, take the left fork of the trail. This leads you towards the Bozenkill creek (you may hear it running).
Take the first right, walking until it branches (the creek will be ahead and slightly to the left of you). You will see two red markers. Between the two, almost straight ahead, you will see a multi-trunked pine tree (3). The basin formed here is where you will find the "A Walk in the Park" letterbox. Go through the light brush, around to the side of the trees facing the creek. The box is hidden under some pine needles and brush in the "crook" of the trunks.
To get back to the parking area, you can return the way you came, or stay on the left path until you come to another marble bench. Keep to the left until the path curves to the right up a hill. You will come out of the woods at the tennis courts and the parking lot.
