The Village of Schaumburg is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Members of the anniversary committee, appointed by Village President Al Larson, developed an anniversary logo. I found this logo to be especially beautiful and meaningful in representing the history of Schaumburg.

To learn about all the events planned for this 50th anniversary celebration check out their web site at http://www.ci.schaumburg.il.us.

A little Schaumburg History: The Village of Schaumburg was incorporated on March 7, 1956, but the heritage of it dates back to much earlier times when the areas members were of the Sauk, Pottawatomie, and Kickapoo Indian tribes. By the mid-nineteenth century, settlers began to arrive from Germany. By 1870, Schaumburg was completely German and remained that way until the Great Depression. During that difficult time land was lost due to foreclosures, and then purchased by non-German people. Schaumburg was originally known as Sarah’s Grove. That name never became official. The name Schaumburg was chosen because it was the part of Germany many of the original residents came from. The main occupation was farming. Potato growing, dairy products, and raising cattle were also main sources of income. The land was a very large meadow surrounded by wilderness.

Schaumburg today: Schaumburg is a bustling community that is constantly updating to keep up with current treads, yet all the while allowing its historic roots to shine through. The Spring Valley Nature Center, Town Square, Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, Alexian Field, the Woodfield Trolly, farmer’s market, shopping, and dining choices as well are all perfect examples of how Schaumburg has worked hard to maintain their German heritage as well as present day changes and technological advances.

So come out and enjoy a day in Schaumburg. Search for this letterbox as well as Squirreling Around, Viva La Mexico, and Art in the Park. Take a look at the beauty that Schaumburg has to offer.

Now, Let’s get down to business. Anniversary Logo is hiding in a very appropriate location for the stamp I have carved. I decided to choose a government building that could keep a close watchful eye on this historically significant stamp. If you are not certain as to which government building would best Protect and Serve me..and keep me Sfe...you can also find me by looking up letter D on the Schaumburg Park District map.

Once you have figured out my location, you are set...please make sure you follow all traffic signs in the area...you certainly would not want to get a Ticket while on this treasure hunt.

Please keep in mind this area is heavily Patrolled so use discretion.

Park in the main parking lot. Head north on the paved path. After walking past the blue pavilion you will notice a brick wall. Do not veer off your path to look at the wall. Instead, continue on the path until you see the entrance to the beautiful circular garden. Head inside and enjoy the fragrance of the LAVENDER flower as well as the beauty of the lattice-topped open sided gazebo. Once inside follow the first gravel path on your right. Count 8 wooden benches along the inner perimeter. The treasure you seek awaits you behind the 8th bench. It will be easier to reach from the back side of the brick wall.

The colors I have chosen for this stamp are the same basic colors as the original logo design created by the village of Schaumburg. I have added some additional colors in the background and a few other details. Look at the design I stamped in the book for the color scheme I envisioned. On the replacement logbook I added the colors did not turn out very nicely...the stamp needs to be cleaned for the colors to be true. I used markers to achieve this look. If you do not have markers, there is a blue ink pad in the box to use.

Please be careful to replant exactly where you found this...as if you slide it over a few inches it will be visible to those sitting on the bench. Pleas also make certain you place it back in place with the white label facing the wall.

After you have found your treasure, take some time to enjoy the park. Walk around the lake, rent a paddle boat or a canoe, enjoy a picnic, go fishing, or perhaps even fly a kite. And don’t forget...while in Schaumburg you can also search for Squirreling Around, Viva La Mexico, and Art in the Park.

ENJOY!
