*****REPORTED MISSING*****

Kitchawan Preserve was previously a research station for the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It is now owned by the Westchester County Parks system. Over six miles of trails offer unparalleled views of the Croton Reservoir and surrounding hills and link to the North County Trailway.

Directions: From the Taconic State Parkway, exit at NY Route 134 East. Continue on 134 East for 1.2 - 1.5 miles to the entrance on the left. The Preserve shares a driveway with the Warren Institute, 712 Kitchawan Road. Park in the first small lot. Do not trespass on the Institute's property or Watershed property. Use extreme caution when exiting back onto Route 134 since the entrance/exit sits on an S curve.

Start your hike by going left at the kiosk in the parking lot. When the path breaks into three, follow the white marked trail that goes straight ahead. Continue walking on the trail, which follows a brook on your left. Do not cross the bridge that you come to; instead, continue on the yellow trail as it makes its way through a cut in some fallen trees. About 100 feet after this tree, the yellow trail makes a right turn and goes uphill.

Follow the trail as it cuts through a stone wall. On your left, you will see a tree with three yellow blazes with a signpost standing next to it. Pass on its right and you will see a tree with a red blaze. Walk towards that tree and pass through an opening in a stone wall near it. Make a right turn and walk 40 steps along that side of the wall. The box is hidden in the wall almost opposite a tree.

You can then continue on the red path or go back to the yellow trail.
