Kum Ba Yah

The composer of "Kum Ba Yah" and other spiritual music was Rev. Marvin V. Frey (1918-1992). His gravesite is at the West Barre Cemetery. Each Year, West Barre United Methodist Church celebrates "Marvin Frey" Sunday and Mrs. Frey joins the congregation in singing "Jesus in the Morning," "I've got Peace Like a River" and other songs composed by her late husband.

To find this letterbox, go to the West Barre Cemetery, on the corner of West Barre Road and Eagle Harbor Road. Park by the cemetery gate. Or, if soggy, park at the road and walk down to the cemetery.

Just prior to entering the west gate (under the date "1829) look for the letterbox underneath the large bushes to the your left.

Inside the cemetery you will find the grave of Elisha Wright (early pioneer of Barre, founder of West Barre Church) and that of his great grand-daughter, MIldred Anne Paine, missionary to Japan and recipient of the Emperor's Award (the first woman to ever receive this high honor).
