The Redbud was designated the official state tree of Oklahoma in 1937. It is a small ornamental tree that is covered with pin-lavender flowers for 2 to 3 weeks before foliage appears. This box is planted as part of our series to honor Oklahoma's 100 birthday in 2007!
Clues:
The Cherokee Strip Museum, located in Perry, OK, is about 1/2 mile east of I-35 off exit 186. The area behind the museum is free to explore whether or not the museum is open, from dawn to dusk. Take the paved path behind the museum to stroll through exhibits. Find the "Oklahoma is OK" letterbox (placed by DS) then stroll back along the banks of the creek toward the bridge you firts crossed when leaving the museum. Just before you come to the bridge there will be a picnic table on your left...the closest one to the bridge. Look in the branches of the large cedar between the table and the creek for the Redbud.
