Mr. Hopewell is resting in a cemetery with the same name located in southeast corner Rush County (Rush County Road 700 E at County Road 1000 S. Go to the open shelter house and read about the history of this place and the notables buried here. When reading the plaque you are facing north and can site along a row of pioneer headstones. Count three wooden fence posts west from the road and come back toward the shelter. There are 5 headstones still upright, but the 6th of dear Martha D. Freeman (1833-1888) is in three pieces. Tucked within the pieces you will find Mr. Hopewell, maybe he’s come a courting. Be sure to hide him well as the caretaker may not approve of Martha having a visitor.
