While many of the world's great inventions (toilet paper, gunpowder and the compass) were made in China, the fortune cookie was, apparently, not.

Mystery surrounds the origin of this ubiquitous after dinner sweet, although it does seem to have been created somewhere in California.

To seek your fortune, locate the Fortune Cookie Factory in Oakland's Chinatown. Tours are offered Monday through Friday 10 am - 3 pm, and cost a dollar. You don't need any money to find a fortune.

Directly across the street from the Fortune Cookie Factory is a parking lot. Find the lot's far right fencepost and reach down. I've even enclosed a small fortune for the first finder!
