**Reported missing Jan 2008. Sorry, unable to replace at this time!***

Our family has been letterboxing for a few years and decided it was time that we planted one ourselves. This is the first letterbox for Otero County. Please bring a compass, wear sunscreen, and carry water if you'd like.

Traveling from White Sands Blvd in Alamogordo, NM:
Turn East on 1st Street and take it to the very end to Desert Foothills Park.
Drive all the way up the unpaved road to the parking area.
Start at the sign that says "Desert Foothills Park - No Motorized Vehicles Beyond This Point".
The path goes at compass heading of approx 100 degrees.
Proceed on the rock path until you come to a "Y".
Turn LEFT at a compass heading of approx 50 degrees.
Stay on this rock path (drainage gulley)until it intersects a paved path. Go RIGHT on the paved path.
You will pass a large water tank on your left.
Proceed until the paved path opens wide and you will face a metal pipe fence. (The paved path will curve right, but stop here.)
At this point, turn LEFT (East) and face the mountain.
Walk approximately 50 paces parallel to the metal fence.
Look for clusters of large boulders on your right side.
The letterbox is beneath a medium-sized boulder that is wrapped with barbed wire. After a hike without any shade, you will wish for a windy day.

Please return box under the barbed wire-wrapped boulder, for others to enjoy. Thanks!
