Mandarin Park, Jacksonville, FL. is a City Park with tennis courts, play ground, fishing/duck pond, picnic pavilions, and a wild life observation pier over Julington Creek.
Park hours are 5 AM to 10 PM.
From Mandarin Road, turn onto Westberry Road to find the main park entrance. Park at either the pavilion or pier parking areas, and find pavilion #3. To the south you can see the beginning of the pier. At the beginning of the pier (except in extreme high water conditions) you will find a footpath to the right along Julington creek. Watch out for the cypress knees, and any wild visitors that may have entered the park from the creek. As you approach the west park fence, there is a fork in the path directly under the huge pine tree. Take the right fork, and begin looking for three pine trees that share the same trunk (you'll have to look up). At the base of the tree, depart on the left side of the path. The letterbox is about 15 yards off the path in a shallow hole in the ground, behind the third pine tree, within the triangle formed by that tree, a red maple, and an old red maple stump about 20 ft. high. It's near the drainage "creek" but you don't have to cross it. A walking stick may be useful, but not necessary. It's an urban park so the path is travelled weekly, but normal woodland precautions apply (i.e. be attentive to spiders, snakes, poison ivy, etc.)
It's less than a 1/4 mile along the path to the letterbox.
