In April, 2005, my husband participated in the inaugural Ironman Arizona in Tempe, AZ. In an Ironman distance triathlon, athletes swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and then run a full marathon, 26.2 miles. While my husband was out on the 112 mile bike portion, I found myself at a nearby Starbucks in a line ten deep. To kill time, I struck up a conversation with the girl in front of me, who, it turns out, was also from Texas. She was in Arizona with a group of triathletes from the Austin area, several of which worked at Jack and Adam's bike shop.
Not five minutes after he heard the words "Congratulations! You are an Ironman", my husband began to talk of ways he could improve his time on future Ironmans. Number one on his list? A new time trial tri-bike. I remembered the conversation about Jack and Adam's so we took a trip to Austin in search of a new bike.
Jack and Adam's was voted the #1 Triathlon Shop in Texas- two years in a row by readers of Texas City Sports Magazine. Jack & Adam's has also been chosen as one of the top three Bicycle Shops in Texas, along side the likes of Richardson Bike Mart, Plano Cycling, & Bicycle Sport Shop. The final category that Jack & Adam's made a strong showing in was the Bicycle fit category, finishing second to Richardson Bike Mart.
This letterbox is dedicated to Jack and Adam and all triathletes out there!
**Update!! Jack and Adams has moved to a different location down the street from their original location. They are now across the street from Peter Pan Mini Golf next to Jack in the Box. The letterbox, however, remains in the same place though!!**
Directions:
To find the letterbox, you need to know the name and location of Lance Armstrong's favorite Mexican food place in Austin. Turn north down the street that is between this restaurant and the former Jack and Adams bicycle shop and head towards the extra restaurant parking on the left side of the street ( about a a block down). You will see a yellow circular sign with red letters indicating that this is a parking area for the restaurant.
Clues:
Turn left into the parking lot and immediately turn right. Look to the left and you will see a light post behind a chain link fence at the end of the lot with a Towing Enforced sign. From this sign, walk 22 steps to the right ( towards the far north end of the lot) where the chain link fence meets with the black iron fence. At this corner, you will see a tree with a knobby trunk. At the base of the tree, wedged between the tree and stalks of bamboo, you will find the Jack and Adam's letterbox covered with lots of leaves!
