Originally planted by Rubaduc and adopted in March 2008 by Deeb and the Beep.

BOX #2 WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED BY ONE OF OUR FURRY FRIENDS.
AND THEN AN ABSOLUTELY AWESOME LETTERBOXER TOOK IT UPON HERSELF TO REHABILITATE AND REPLACE IT. THE STAMP MIGHT LOOK LIKE IT'S BEEN USED AS A TEETHING RING BUT ALL IS WELL IN COMER. THANKS Jennifer.

Two crudely carved stamps that were once a series in West Hartford, Ct. until a contractor decided to build houses in the middle of the trail. I HATE when that happens.

An easy hike at Watson Mill State Park. Pay the fee, find the little ranger cottage, take the path through the picture taking station and follow the Powerhouse Raceway Trail along a canal type waterway until you reach the site of the old powerhouse. From there, take the South Fork River Trail passing another wooden platform and crossing a wooden bridge. At the sign post follow the trail to the campground, keeping the water to your left. Upon entering the primitive campsites (be respectful if there are campers here) bear left on the dirt road looking for a strangely bent tree on the left (about 75 steps) from the tree go another 35 steps and look for a faded trail on the left again going towards the water. Down a short hill, go right, follow the water for quite a ways until you come in sight of an abandoned steel bridge. Just before the bridge when you come to a fallen tree across the trail stop, turn around, walk back 100 steps (just checking to see if you can count) to a seven foot stump at the edge of the river bank. Look left uphill at 310 degrees about 150 feet off trail to find box #1. Follow the gully like indentation uphill to a downed tree and the tree you're looking for is the next (still standing) one after that. Go to the back side and reach UP into the hole.

After replacing with great care, return to the trail and continue back to the sign post that lead you to the campground. Now take the Holly Tree Loop Trail until you come to the land of the fallen (fallen by man, that is) trees. At the last stump on the right count 40-45-50 steps and keep looking left uphill for a skinney tree with multiple burls on it. This fine fall day it was visible from 40-45 and 50 steps but with leaves on the trees you might have to look a little harder. Box #2 is about six steps to the right and a little in back of this tree under a football size rock.

After replacing with great care, continue on and soon you should see your way back to your car. Thanks for the visit.
