"The Lame-o Loam Foam Lone Star Letterbox"

Vital stats: Hand-made (but not hand-carved) stamp, kid-friendly, short walk and straight-forward clues, could be considered a drive-by. I don’t know if pets are allowed in this location or not... my apologies. No compass needed. If I didn’t cover your question, please always feel free to ask!

Location: Horsham, PA -- near the Horsham Township Library (alfresco, not intramural, box)

General story about the box: This box is my way of salvaging a very lame stamp that was one of the first ones that I made. Thus, the stamp is hand-made, but not hand-carved. Please don’t hunt for this box looking for a cool stamp, because you will likely be very disappointed! However, to make up for the lame stamp, you will find a much snazzier logbook than what can be found in most letterboxes, as well as a small bonus for the first finder of the box. Plus, who doesn’t love being the first finder of ANY box????

This box is not in a particularly scenic nor particularly significant location. And the theme of the box definitely does not correlate to the location. So, if those things are important to you, this probably isn’t the box for you, either. I’m not doing a very good job of advertising my box, am I???? I will give you some of the positives...this is a relatively quick find, a fairly easy-to-get box in bad weather (I planted it in between two snowstorms) and you WILL get a stamp and have fun and have the ability to increase your F-count by 1! :) So, this box is all about the thrill of the seek and find and that’s about all that it has going for it... hence its rather “tongue in cheek” name. But please do hunt for it...really! I think that you’ll be very glad that you did!!!

Clues: The Horsham Township Library is located at the corner of Babylon and Jarrett Roads. Proceed down Jarrett Road until you reach the point where it is blocked off to through-traffic. This is also the point at which there are small wooden guard-rails on either side of the road with a small creek flowing (or frozen, as the case may be!) underneath. I believe there is also a yellow and black striped road sign at this location.

At this point, you will probably want to park in the back section of the library parking lot and continue your search on foot. Return to the spot with the wooden guard-rails and the creek and the street sign. As you are facing away from the library and looking down Jarrett Road, enter the woods directly to your right. They may be quite thick with briar bushes at some times of the year. They were that way at the time of planting!

Proceed to one of the trees farthest away from Jarrett Road. One way to help identify the correct tree is that it currently has several (I counted five, at least) old nails hammered into its trunk. Up above the nails there is a crevice in the tree and that is where the letterbox is located. It is covered with a few fallen branches, twigs, sticks, and other debris, but it is sitting there wedged right into the crevice. Even though this spot is close to a public location, this wooded section is fairly well-secluded. If the weather is lousy, you can always return to your car to stamp-in and then re-hide the letterbox.

Please enjoy the box very much and please also re-hide and camouflage it very well! I would appreciate it if you would let me know of your find and also of the condition of the box. My e-mail is JSH11A@aol.com.

Thanks and happy boxing!

Swallowdale :)
