“Aslan”

Updated 2/15/06: The last boxers to attempt this find found only empty ziplock baggies. :( Status is unknown until I can return to the area and see if the box is indeed missing or not.

Vital stats: Hand-carved stamp, kid-friendly, short walk and straight-forward clues, could be considered a drive-by. I don’t know if pets are allowed in this location or not...my apologies. No compass needed. If I didn’t cover your question, please always feel free to ask!

Location: Glenside, PA -- Renninger Park Field at the intersection of the avenue named after the famous Glenside theater and Parkside Avenue.

Pull all the way down Parkside Avenue until it dead-ends and park near the basketball courts. There are signs posted stating that there is no parking permitted on Mondays from 7 AM to 5 PM. I’m not exactly sure what the rationale behind that one is, but then again, that’s probably why I’m not the mayor of Glenside. Anyhow, we had better obey the signs! Assuming that you are there at an acceptable parking hour, your Dawn Treader should now be docked in a small lot with the basketball courts off the starboard bow and a quaint row of houses to the port side.

Disembark and journey down the path towards the woods and the creek bank and away from the basketball courts. If you pass a double-trunked stump on your left, it will be a sign that you are approaching Narnia!

Through the fog, strain to discern two white posts attached by a chain cordoning off the entrance to the magic wardrobe. One of the posts appears to display markings recording the height of the creek’s floodwaters from an epoch long ago.

Hop over the chain between the two white columns, sweep away the overcoats and woolen scarves that clutter the wardrobe and emerge into Narnia!

Once in Narnia, discern the path leading to the creek below. At the bank of the creek, notice two rock outcroppings. As you face the creek, discover your Turkish Delight under the “sinister” rock outcropping, camouflaged by smaller stones and ground cover at the base of the box and surrounding the outcropping.

Please enjoy the box very much and please also re-hide it very well! I would appreciate it if you would let me know of your find and also of the condition of the box. My e-mail is JSH11A@aol.com.

Thanks! Happy boxing!

Swallowdale :)
