Nockamixon State Park - Old Mill Trail
This trail can be really muddy right after a good rain!
Start at Old Mill Trail sign. Follow the path. Watch out! there are 2 trees on the ground. Walk over them very quietly - you don't want to wake up the wild animals. You'll come to a V in the path. Stay to the left, but keep an eye out for any wild animals. Follow the path around to the left. Soon you will come to a swampy area. It is easier if you stay to the left-hand side where you can walk across the logs. Follow the path around to the right. See the 'snakes' winding up through the trees - they should be on your right. Walk straight ahead to the clearing. Stop to make sure everyone made it through the swamp safely. If everyone is okay, start off to your right. Notice the small trails the animals have made. As the trail winds off to the left, you'll notice two paths to the right going into the woods again. Take the second one. Keeping an eye out for wild animals, follow the trail straight down to the ledge. Make a left and keep on going. Follow the path around the dead pines down to the waterfalls. On your right, you will find steps of stones. Climb down and make your way across the waterfalls. See the rock wall - this is where the bats like to hide! Once you've made it over there, you'll climb one small hill and then another. There, turn and face the lake. One large stone is sticking straight up. Make your way over to it and very carefully reach down over the wall. Don't let the bats bite you! In the wall, you will find what you are looking for. Good Luck . . .
