Difficulty: Very Easy
Drive up
Time: 10 minutes after parking. Distance ~ 30 yards round trip from parked car. Letterpouch approximate location can be seen from parked car. Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands.
This letterpouch is located approximately 2 miles from exit 5 of interstate 70, just east of Wheeling WV.
Driving directions: Exit I-70 at exit 5 and at the end of the exit get on H.W. 40 going WEST. Follow 40 west for 1.3 miles and turn right into the Wheeling Park entrance. Follow this one way road for 3/10 miles passing a large white building on your right, then stopping at the stop sign at the T in the road. Turn right toward the Wheeling Park High School and go 3/10 miles, passing the swimming pool on the right, sights of the golf course to the right and start slowing as approaching the sharp left turn up the hill. Pull off to the right at the sharp turn, between the two arrow signs. Drive up to the cable barrier and park. Get out of your car and step over the cable, then take 6 steps forward and stop. Make a 90* turn to your left and walk approximately 6 steps forward, stepping over a downed log and go up to the giant cut log lying with one end against an upright tree. The Great Outdoors Letterpouch is under the back side end of the giant log closest to the upright tree, under pieces of dead bark. Please be discrete when retrieving and replacing the pouch and please seal the zippers on the baggies completely to keep the log dry. Hope you enjoyed your short hunt and the stamp. If you need directions to get to the subject just ask any of the locals.
