*Update: I received this email, "September 17, 2007. Another drowned box!! I think the massive rainstorms got this one too. That, and there are about 200 fallen trees now, so we searched the general area for an hour, stepped in icky-gooey black stinky mud (ok that part was fun) and we found several stumps by trees, but no box. Pretty sure it's pushing up daisies (or cattails?) by now... Sorry."
I don't think I'll be redoing this box (this year anyway) because I now live in Colorado and I really don't know how bad the conditions in my Oklahoma hiding places are.
Difficulty: Easy (about a 5 minute or less walk; not wheelchair accessible)
From I-40, exit on Council and go North to 39th Expressway (Route 66). Go west past Lake Overholser (you'll know it by the old bridge on the south side of the street). Turn right on the first gravel road past the bridge. You'll pass a farm or two, and the road will dead end. Don't park directly in front of the yellow gate! But do park somewhere close by.
Duck under the gate and follow the road apx. 82 paces (164 steps). You'll come to an area where there's not so much brush on the east side of the road, and you can easily walk into the woods there (there are some lightly pounded grass paths). Follow the path from the road and head right into the woods, walking east for about 38 steps until you hit a large,light-colored fallen tree that's about 25 feet long. Step over that tree more at its southern end. I'm not sure what the flora will look like the rest of the year, but when I placed it, there were LOTS of cattails ahead. Walk SSE-ward from the fallen tree toward the cattails for about 23 steps. Stop and face due north. You will see a lone tree about 10 steps north. Look in the womb of the stump on that tree's north side.
PLEASE REPLACE THE BIG ROCK ON TOP OF THE LETTERBOX!!! Don't want the critters to take off with it!
