This is a nice enjoyable walk anytime of year suitable for kinds and adults alike. Start you quest on the York County Heritage Rail Trail (http://ycwebserver.york-county.org/Parks/RailTrail.htm) in Railroad, PA. Exit 4 off of I-83 and head west on 851, follow the signs to Railroad. When you see the tracks at the bottom of the hill, you've arrived park in the lot to your right. You can pick up a park map at the sign board at the trail head.

Walk north on the trail starting at the mile 3 marker. The trail will take a small bend around the corner as you leave the Railroad parking lot. Take in the sites and enjoy the short .5 mile walk to the letterbox. You will pass the treatment plant on your left and continue down the path. You will see the green rails at the one lane bridge. Stop here and enjoy the view of the stream below and take in an eagle eye view of the traffic as it passes below. Don’t be alarmed if you hear a honk or two as you walk through this area. Cars will often honk before the turn the blind corner to go under the bridge. As you leave the bridge you will see a wooden rail on your right. At the end of this rail begin counting paces (each step is a pace). You are walking into an area with a large wall of rock on your left as you moved down the path. Eighty-Three paces down the trail, you will notice four white quartz rocks in a row on the opposite side of the tracks. These are pointing the way to what you seek. Scan to the top of the hill and find the “Tree Stump”. Follow a line from the tree stump down to the base of the outcropping below. Just beyond and behind the last quartz rock, you will see the same outcropping of rock. At the base of this rock you will see a small pile of rocks in the wall, which is where you will find the Rail Trail Box.

This is a busy trail so try and be discreet about you find. You can take the box just a short distance on down the trail and you will find two benches where you can sit and enjoy the day while stamping in your books. Make sure that you hide the box well and that it is not visible from any angle when you are done.

Tracing ones tracks in life can provide a valuable lesson. Look back at where I’ve been and know that this is made me who I am here today. Look down the long set of tracks into the future and have comfort in the fact that you’re past can influence you future in a positive way!
