NOTE: (THIS BOX WAS PART of the TERRORS of TELGE Gathering in Houston, October 2005 and WAS REMOVED AT THE END of NOVEMBER. Unfortunately by the time our Ghostly Lady made it back to Dallas, another Lady of the Lake had taken her place at White Rock...ghostly real estate is apparently a rare commodity!
We haven't yet figured out where to let this lady make her final resting place - stay tuned!)

BACKGROUND: …"The Ghostly Lady of White Rock Lake” is perhaps the best-known and most frequently spotted ghost in Dallas. This Ghostly Lady was originally created as a hitch hiker in our first Dallas letterbox, but couldn’t catch a ride – (hmmm…could it have been the lake water dripping from her tattered prom dress?)
She has been resurrected for Halloween of 2005 and will begin her new life as a letterbox by visiting her friends at the Terrors of Telge. Afterwards she will become a permanent box at White Rock Lake, where we hope to discourage her from any more ghostly hitch hiking…

It all began when Dr. Eckersall, a local MD, was driving home from his club late one Saturday night. Slowing down to admire the full moon against the lake, he noticed a lovely young girl in a wet and tattered gown, beckoning him for a lift. Having daughters of his own, concern overcame hesitation. He jammed on the brakes, and motioned her into the back seat. "All cluttered up with my golf bag in front," he explained. "What on earth are you doing out here all alone at this time of night?"
"It's a long story," she whispered sadly. "Please, please take me home. I’ve been trying to get home for so long. I live up the road about 5 miles…is it too far out of your way?"
A few minutes later, they pulled up before a shuttered house. The doctor said, "Here we are", and turned around, expectantly. But the back seat was empty, except for lake water dripping down onto the floorboard.
"What on earth?" the doctor muttered. She couldn't possibly have simply vanished. He rang the doorbell, totally confused. A gray-haired, very tired-looking woman opened the door.
"I can't tell you what an amazing thing has happened," began the doctor. "A young girl gave me this address a while back. I drove her here and . . ."
"Yes, yes, I know," said the woman wearily. "This happens every year about this time. That young girl, sir, was my daughter. She was killed in a car accident at White Rock Lake driving home from her prom almost ten years ago . . ."

DIRECTIONS to TELGE PARK:
From Hwy 290 in northwest Houston, go north on Telge Rd. After you cross Cypress Creek, the park will be on your right. Turn right on Pleasant Grove, and then make a very quick right into the small parking area.

CLUES: From the playground, go across the park to the edge of the woods and find a wooden bridge. Proceed across the wooden bridge and then take the left hand path. Continuing on this trail you will go up and down a small rise, and then find an equally substantial trail to the right.
Follow this trail quite a ways until it “dead-ends”. There is a small path going up a hill to your right.
Climb to top of hill, and then descend towards the creek. About seven steps before you reach the “T” intersection of the path in front of you, look to your left. Find a small tree (not a pine) with exposed roots just off the path. What you seek is tangled in the right-hand side of the roots on the dirt ledge– please recover very well.
(And oh yes - sorry about the lake water dripping on your clothes…)
