6/30/09 - Box still active - checked on 6/30/09 It hasn't been found in a year but it is still in tact - some of the smaller trails are getting a bit over grown but it is worth the trip. FTH
Horseshoe Pond is well hidden in Island Lake State Park, there is an entry fee (daily or annual.) It takes a moderately difficult trail to reach but it is worth the view. Plan on over 2 hours round trip. Park next to the outhouse at the Riverbend and find the path behind it. Take the main bike trail at 240 degrees and follow it uphill. At the signpost follow the arrow. STOP. Head west under the bridge, follow the path at 125 degrees. Climb the hill to pole # 24 _____ _____ _____ at the sixth pole # 24 _____ _____ _____ head 50 degrees into the woods. after 60 paces the trail will split. Step over the pile of branches. Go 120 degrees through the field, down the hill to the post with the Blue sign & black arrow. You will see 3 trails: one following the arrow. Two straight ahead up the hill. Three to the left through the bushes. Add the last 3 digits of all 6 poles. If this number is < 4000 go left. If it is > 4000 go right. If it is 4000 go straight. Follow the path as it winds through a semi shady valley. On your right is a tree with 4 straight trunks and one that has been twisted to show the way. East past the dunes, at the ten tree turn curve right through a field, left through some trees, right over the rocks and you will come to where the road makes an A. Go Straight ahead 42 steps to a (hard to see) small trail on the left. If you come to another fork in the road you have gone too far! Take this trail til it ends. Across the pond at 190 degrees is a 2 trunked tree that looks like a O with a pile of rocks & bark at its base that houses your prize.
Box Checked on 6/30/09 in good shape and ready to be found.
