10/23/2007 Status unknown following San Diego area fires.

While enjoying a hike this morning, we saw lots of horseshoe tracks in the dirt road as well as tire tread. Thus, the Horseless Hotrod.

The hike is 6 miles round trip with an elevation change of about 300 feet. There is little shade. Wear a hat and carry lots of water.

Directions:
From Hwy. 67 in Ramona, go west on Hwy. 78. Turn right on Haverford Road then left as it turns into Pamo Road. The trailhead is 2.6 miles down Pamo Road, on the left side. There is limited parking and no restroom facilities.

Clues:
Enter around the gate. You begin on paved road, with private property on both sides. Please stay on the road. It will soon become dirt, sand, and gravel. Follow the road walking steadily up for 3 miles to a T intersection. You will pass the Orosco Ridge Recreational Target Shooting Area, which has been closed since August 29, 2005.

At the T intersection, turn right and go past the gate. Take 37 steps up the road. Turn east and go to the base of a large boulder on your right. The Horseless Hotrod is garaged under the rock cairn at the front of the boulder.
