These boxes were planted with the help of Flutterby and the rooster was carved by RTRW. Thank you dear friends.

THE RUNAWAY ROOSTER and the NEWT

There is a small preserve off route 156 in Lyme Ct. on Mac Intosh Road Drive a short way down this road and cross a bridge. You will then see on the right a small dirt pull off for parking Park here and walk up the hill on the small path to the gate and the sign for the Preserve. Squeeze through the gate and walk along the path until you see a wooden arrow pointing right. Follow the direction of the arrow and soon you will arrive at the Map board . Copy the map on your clue sheet if there are no maps in the wooden box. This is a short sweet loop using the blue trail and so it will only show you a small section of this lovely valley. Bird watching, cross country skiing and hiking are enjoyed here. The Blue Trail passes by three kettle holes. These vernal pools are important to a variety of amphibians
To find the Runaway Rooster and a tiny critter, The Newt ~just begin the hike on the Blue/red trail to the right of the map board The blue trail is only one half mile long. If you are here for an outing, check out the red trail and the wonderful Green trail which takes you on a hike up through the rocks to an overlook You won’t find many rocks on the blue trail. !
At the first Y, stay on Blue as Red goes off to the right. Wander across a field where you may see many birds if you sit a spell. Enter into the woods and up a small rise then over a bridge. Now the trail side-hills up and as it levels off, notice a large white oak tree on the right with a second large oak just below it, on the hill. In between the two trees is a downed tree and the perfect place to fine a tiny critter, The NEWT. Please re hide well.
Continue on the Blue Trail. Once again you enter a field and come to a second Y, where the Orange Trail goes to the right however, you stay on Blue and continue to cross the field. As you enter the woods and begin a small downward slope, look right for a tall [maybe 20 feet high?] dead tree. The RUNAWAY ROOSTER has a nest here. Cover him up well, please .
Continue on Blue to the intersection with Green, and turn left on Green back to the map board and out to your car.
Please come back to Pleasant Valley
Happy days
Butterfly
