Update 11/25/2009: Sadly, I believe it is gone.

Update 10/31/2009: I was unable to find the box on this visit. The fallen tree under which it was originally hidden is gone now. I received a report back in September that the box is still present and in good condition and that it is hidden behind a stump. I probably could have found it if I had worked a bit harder, but the area was so full of thorny plants that I just didn't want to mess around any longer! My plan is to pull this box and then possibly select a new location for it. If anyone finds it, I have a favor to ask. Please remove it and do one of the following: 1) Drop it off at my house in Lansing (email me and I'll give it to you), 2) Mail it to me (I will pay shipping), or 3) rehide it somewhere more readily accessible at the cider mill and contact me with instructions for finding it. Thank you; it is appreciated.

This box is located at Uncle John's Cider Mill. It will be accessible only when Uncle John's is open (see their web site for hours). Since the box is on private property, please be careful and respectful. The mosquitos get very intense near the box, so you may want to wear bug repellent.

Start at the caboose of the wooden train in the children's play area. Face south. You should see a wooded area off in that direction. Proceed toward this wooded area at a bearing of 170 degrees. You will cross a grassy parking area. You should end up near a T-junction of two dirt roads: one that runs east-west along the south side of the parking area, and one that runs south between a field and a wooded area. From this junction, proceed 54 paces east down the dirt road until you come to a clearing in the woods to your right. From this point on the road, go 23 paces at a bearing of 185 degrees into the clearing. You should find a fallen tree. The letterbox is hidden under the near end of the fallen tree. Please rehide the box well with branches and leaves for cover. And don't forget to get some apple cider (the best in the area) and a caramel apple before you leave!
