UPDATE!!! 11/13/05
Due to construction on the trail, this box has been pulled until they finish. Had to dig it out! Will notify when it has been replaced. So sorry!

Old Fort Western is the oldest surviving wooden fort in New England, have been built in 1754. This fort is open to the public for tours. There is also a visitors center. For further information see their website at www.oldfortwestern.org.

CAUTION: This box requires a great deal of stealth! It is a very busy area with lots of foot traffic. There is also a steep slope so small children should not be allowed to retrieve this box.

Start by admiring the Mighty Kennebec and imagining how life would have been like for the people who lived in the fort. With the fort on your right, the river in front and the plaque on the stone telling of the Cushnoc Trading Post, look to your left and you will see a trail leading down hill to a playground. Just at the corner where this trail begins, look to your left for the first large tree. From this spot take approximately 6 paces down the trail. Stop and look to your right. There will be a large, flat, sloping gray rock on your right. Underneath and on the downward side of this rock is the box you seek. It is covered with more smaller rocks.

Once you have stamped in and rehidden this box, take some time to enjoy the fort and the history.
