This box replaces the original Octopus Vulgaris which was planted in Venice last December and had gone missing by January. Hopefully this one will stick around a bit longer.
Well it did last a bit longer but it now appears to be missing -- as of 5/17/06

Did you know?
One of "the most often encountered octopuses on the west coast of Florida is the Common Octopus, Octopus Vulgarus". Lern more about it at http://www.marinelab.sarasota.fl.us/OCTOPI.HTM
If you head to the beach you might even see one around here. After all, sharks' teeth are becoming scarcer than..., well, you know!

Here's the directions, it's an easy walk from the parking area but you're not apt to see any octopi.

From Highway 41 turn West on Shamrock Rd. It's a big intersection with a Day's Inn on one corner. Follow the road till you get to Shamrock Park. Pull in to the first parking area on the left. From here walk back to the road and find the paved path by the "Enjoy your Park" sign. Head down this till you come to a bench and the 7 marker. This will be a good spot to stamp in.
Now go back the way you came till you get to the arrow. The box is hidden by the trunk of the tree to the right about a yard up.

As usual, be discreet and make sure you cover it up well when you replace it.
