Old Hermit can be found in Florida, Ohio. Florida is located on State Route 424 between Defiance and Napoleon in Henry County. Once you find Florida, you need look for County Road 17C. You will turn south or towards the bridge on Co.Rd. 17C. Just after you turn onto the County Road, you will see a small drive on your right and just before the bridge. You need to turn down this steep drive and park near the trees at the bottom. You will see a sign that says Independence Dam Tow Path Trail. Beginning at the metal gate at the entrance you will count 250 paces. This is a nice dirt path to walk on just make sure it is semi-dry weather or you need to wear old shoes. During your 250 paces, you will pass a metal fence on your left. At 109 paces you will see a HUGE tree on your left. At exactly 250 paces or 500 steps, you will see a cluster of 4 trees on your right. Inside you will find the Old Hermit waiting to be found. When looking into the tree, you will see a nice stone wall across the canal that is holding the bank up and a white house. Hope they didn’t paint it another color!

If you are an avid walker, you can take this path even further, approximately 3 miles to the campground (that is no longer used) at the back end of Independence Dam State Park.

**We suggest beginning at Independence Dam State Park and collecting all those stamps. You can then ride bikes to Florida (walk back to the Old Hermit) and ride back to the State Park. Not that either of us are control freaks! Good Luck!
