This Letterbox is in memory of our sweet beloved dog Goldust, October 30 1990 - April 25 2005 He will be in our hearts forever.

Directions to Hurd Park: Directions: Rt. 66 to 151 south follow 151 south about 2.5 mi. turn onto Hurd Park Rd. follow Hurd Park Rd, for about a half mile to parking area. Park here for a longer hike, or drive in following the directions in the clues.

Caution: Please be careful to watch any children and pets you have letterboxing with you while you are stamping into this letterbox if they wander they can come close to the top of the quarries that you will be passing on the way in, I wouldn’t want anyone falling from the tops of these!

Clues:
Head up the park road, take the first Right hand turn up the paved hill,Watch out for the huge pothole at the left hand turn on the way up the hill! Keep driving until you are next to the ball field and picnic shelter. Park in the turn around Please don’t block any gates.

Walk through the field towards the picnic shelter, behind the shelter on the right Is a Huge old Oak tree walk past this tree after checking it out for a minute. Head towards the right hand back corner of the field. You will see a WOODEN POLE PAINTED WHITE marking the trailhead
Walk past the pole onto the trail. You will pass two old quarries on your right (The Coyotes den is one of them). Walk past both quarries and you will see a tree blazed with two white blazes, Turn right after the blazes and head up the hill. Keep going uphill and you will come to a Rock Wall pass through the wall and stop. Turn right and walk alongside the rock wall with the wall on your right until you come to another break in the wall, stop at the break and look straight through it you will see a tree that is larger than the others. Walk to this tree (about 12 paces counting both feet) being careful as you will be walking across and down rocks. When you get to the tree the box is hidden on the right hand side between the tree and a large flat rock, it is piled under about eight rocks to hide it well. After stamping in PLEASE reseal all bags and the box well and make sure to hide the box good under the rocks. If you think you need more rocks to hide the box good please don’t take them from the rock wall.

After you finish your letterboxing you may want to continue up this trail it is very pretty with lots of rock wall and natural rock formations.

For an alternate longer route to letterbox:
From parking lot do not cross the gate but look to the right of the parking area there is a small steep hill go up this and turn right at the top of the hill follow this trail with faint yellow blazes until you reach a paved path when you reach this path turn left and follow paved path to around the top of the hill be on the lookout for a trail on the right with blue blazes when you get to it follow it until the end (near the end it splits stay right ) at the end of the trail is a picnic area enter this area about 20 feet on the right is a WHITE WOOD POLE with a white blaze on it, enter this trail follow the directions above.

Other Boxes in the Park: The Coyotes Den, In Search Of Mokele Mbembe, White Elephant, Purple Serpentine Dragon, (and Blue Griffin although I couldn’t find this one).
Make a day out of it and have Fun!
