Between Carpinteria & Santa Barbara lies the tiny seaside town of Summerland, CA. Take exit 91 North or South from the 101 Freeway.
This trek is approximately 0.6 miles one way & includes one short steep hill that has "steps". The mountain & ocean views are lovely, especially at sunrise & sunset. The trail is very popular with walkers, dogs on & off leash & horseback riders, as well as a rare mountain biker. Be neat, be discreet.
Park your car on the side of Ortega Hill Road, just past the Summerland-by-the-Sea Mobile Home Park. The trail begins to the right of QAD's driveway, & is clearly marked.

MOUNTAIN VIEW - less than .1 mile along, past the towers on the left you will find a hollow tipped over stump, also on the left of the trail. Look inside for the first letterbox....
Continuing around the loop, you'll pass "The Morgan Stop", a big log set back off the left of the trail,& soon reach a eucalyptus grove, where, from Jan-Mar you may see Monarch butterflies resting and sunning. At the top of the steep ascent there's a bench thoughtfully placed for catching one's breath.

FOOT REST - continue along the trail past the front of QAD until you reach the second bench. Stop & enjoy the view looking south down the coastline. The Carpinteria bluffs feature prominantly in the view. To the left of the bench & just behind the hitching post, look under the rock for the second letterbox.
The loop continues downhill past the mobile homes & back out to where the trail parallels Ortega Hill Road.
