"good grief, the commedians a bear!!"

"No he's not, he's wearing a neck tie!!"

This letterbox was inspired by, and is part of the same theme as my 1st placed box (its not easy being green), with hopefully more to follow.

10/12/2005 - this boxes clue has been edited to better guide people. several individuals have contacted me saying that they found this letterbox, but had difficulty finding its starting point. as a result, I went back and read it and could see why. hopefully it is more clear and more people will be able to find their way to the way. Sorry to those who have tried and could not find it due to this.

Total walking time - 20 minutes max round trip.

This letterbox is hidden on the trail that is closest to the fish hatchery off of North River Road. The Trailhead is accessible from the road, keep an eye out for a hiking trail sign (hiking man) on N. River Road. Turn onto this dirt road with numerous potholes. There is a wooden post at the beginning of the dirt road naming the trail after the river it trails along. this road will continue through a corn field, come to an unmarked parking lot, and will turn and continue on for a bit to the right. Park in the parking lot. the trailhead that you are looking for is to the right of where you have parked, and is marked with 3 strips of orange tape on a tree on your left side. from here you should be able to see an information board further up the trail

once you have found the trailhead, start walking the trail. as you walk, the Mighty Souhegan river will be on your right, and the information board with no information that is relevant to seemingly anything will be on your left. something that I noticed is that as you are walking, you will get to actually see the transition of the forest from the more open birch and maple forest to that of the more densely populated pine forest, which is where you are heading.

eventually you will pass through a pair of Muscle bound sentries on either side of the trail, the one on the right is wearing a name tag. (bonus points to anyone who knows who these tough guys are before you get to them. Hint - Carpinus Caroliniana) once you pass this pair, be on the lookout for something that the stamps namesakes little wierd blue friend one time tried to eat to the tune of Flight of the Bumblebees (hint - vroom). once you have found this, look to the left into the forest. there you will see a very large old tree that has 3 massive liters all sharing the same massive base. this is not where the letter box is hidden.

Just beyond this tree, however, is another tree, a "ghost tree" if you will that has 2 large liters sharing the same base. at this trees base is a hole that would be ideal for a very small bear to possibly crawl into and hibernate...hmmm, interesting.
