UPDATED 4/26/2016 - 3rd box replaced; updated clues to #2 & #3

We’re going to try to find the elusive Wetlands Wanderer. He has meandered into the West Bloomfield Nature Preserve, located on Arrowhead Road south off Pontiac Trail, between Orchard Lake and Haggerty.

Start your roamings on the paved trail that goes past the porta-potty. Trail turns to gravel and travels through the woods, passing some evergreens that have had very severe “haircuts”. You will reach an intersection - keep going straight and watch for cross-traffic!

The trail will take you downhill, until you reach an opportunity to overlook the wetlands. This would be a logical place to look for the wanderer, but, alas, he’s not here. Back on the trail, follow the trail southeast until you reach a small wooden “bridge”. Standing on the boards, look south. About 12 steps from the trail are twin twin-trunked trees – look behind the western one of the pair. Oh -- it’s not the Wetlands Wanderer, but his friend the “Happy Dragonfly”!

After visiting with the Happy Dragonfly, continue on the trail. Amble uphill. Look at the description about “Life in Dead Wood”. (Wonder why they don’t include letterboxes as something that takes life in dead wood!) Continue on the trail. When you reach a decision point, let Jeff show you the way. You will reach an opportunity to rest with “Bubbie” and observe the passage of time.

Past #13 you will see a sign telling you that this is a wading bird nesting area. Sounds like exactly the kind of place the Wetlands Wanderer could call home. He’s bound to be around here somewhere. Continue on the trail – go swiftly past Christopher for 72 steps. Look behind 2-trunker on the right.

I had only planned on two boxes in this park. However, when I planted the first two, I encountered a most pleasant surprise. To commemmorate this happy occurrence, I added a third box. To find it, continue on the trail. When you reach a 'T' in the trail, make a hard right, continue in a southerly direction. You will come across birds of differing feathers.

Continuing on the trail, you will cross a wooden bridge and head uphill. Continue until you can sit with Lorna, and look under the over. You will find the woodland creature who greeted me on my first trip. As a matter of fact, there were four of them rustling through the leaves.

At this point, you're at the halfway mark, so you may as well continue on the trail. When you get back to the wetland overlook, follow the path northwest past #4 for the most direct route to the parking lot.
