Red River is a wonderful town for a family vacation. There is fishing, shopping, hiking, biking and good ole relaxation to be found in this small New Mexico town. Not to mention the skiing in the winter.
My nephew, L.D., actually saw a bear at this location a couple of years ago while on vacation.

Directions: You will come into Red River on Hwy 38. Right in the middle of town you will see Brandenburg Park on the South side of the street. Park your car on the South side of the park and make your way over to the covered bridge.

Clues: Walk across the covered bridge. Once you are on the hiking trail, turn to the left. Walk down the trail, pass the private property (it's okay to walk pass this property). You'll come to a scree field, go straight and you will pick up the trail on the other side of this scree field. You will finally come to an aspen tree, the microbox is at the base of this tree covered by rocks. You will be able to see the Rio Colorado Lodge cabins from this tree, however you will not see a sign, just very rustic cabins.

***It was brought to my attention that ski season prevents you from being able to get to this box with the above clues. I believe this will work, if you turn South off of Main Street onto Copper King Trl., find a parking place and walk South to the end of the street. Then cross over the blue fence and go over the bridge, this puts you at the private property mentioned above. You can follow the clues from there.
I have not been in Red River during ski season for 14yrs., but from the information I gathered, this should work. If not, PLEASE contact me and let me know. Sorry!!!
