It was early Saturday morning when I pulled into the driveway of the Clark Sport Center, the one closest to the river and parked in the lot to my right. My 1st box was behind the dogipot sign. Knowing this wouldn’t do again I ventured further along the tree line until I came to a primitive driveway that went into the weeds. Ahh, my sense of adventure began as I headed for a small dirt trail straight ahead. I thought of leaving a bread crumb trail like Hansel and Gretel but figured the crows would gobble it up. Just then I noticed a polka dotted tree and I was on my way for that perfect spot and proceeded down the hill. No vegetation except for some ferns and those straight trees. What’s that a split in the trail with a smiley face to show me the way. I notice how old the woods are and that there are wires running in between some of those ancient trees. I stopped to ponder why they were there and then continued on my way. Wow, that sure is an old bridge. I wonder what crossed it – probably cows. Hmmm – there’s another one of those signs. This river doesn’t look like much but I notice that lots of animals use it – deer, raccoons, birds. Can you find what they left behind or took with them. Oh, there’s another sign, keep this one on your right as you go past.

**A little side spur mystery – If you walk straight ahead with that latest sign on your left and follow the river you will notice a circular stand of trees. Along the base of these trees the bark has been removed. Do you know what did this?**

Returning to the trail and continuing to walk onward a giant blocked my way. Climbing over the giant and imaging the noise it once made I spied yet another sign and scanned the area looking for a good hiding place. Not yet I decided and continued on. A different sign appears “Clark Sports Center” and jays scream at my intrusion. Wait, there it is. Walk 16 feet past the shattered tree to another large tree. Just behind I found a small depression in the ground perfect for hiding a treasure in. Under lots of leaves and twigs lies craft letterbox #1. When you leave the LB please make sure that it looks natural.

When I first discovered this little woodsy area Saturday morning, I fell in love with it.
Later that night I took the chance to venture past my letterbox and explore further. If you too decide to walk along, here are some things you can look for. A stone bridge, two platforms high up in the trees facing each other, a wall, another bridge, piles of sticks. I felt like I was walking through a scene from Myst or Riven. When you reach the end of the trail you will see the back of the sports center and should be able to find your vehicle from there. I hope you enjoyed your hike and took the time to discover.
