This lighthouse at the mouth of the Umpqua River is the place of the first lighthouse on the Oregon coast, 1857. Unfortunately the original Umpqua lighthouse was built on sand (something biblical about this) and the foundation was ravaged by storms! A new one was built on a sturdier foundation and fairing much better.
A nice little viewing deck (very foggy when we were there, couldn't see past the dunes). Whales to be viewed in the winter and spring migrations.
When you are 2 miles from Winchester Bay and and 1 mile from Salmon Harbor a memento is close by. In the group of pines on the north side of the most leaning tree, under rocks.
Enjoy!
