Where the heck are you going starting point:

State of confusion: Illinois
Property: Kane County Forest Preserve
Location: North of St Charles, IL & South of South Elgin, IL on Route 31
New name: Jon J Duerr and boat launch
former name: Blackhawk Forest Preserve
Along the Randall & Silver Glen Bike Trail

Where the heck are you and where the heck are you going?

Once at the entrance of the Jon J Duerr Forest Preserve drive into the forest preserve and park at the parking lot nearest the river and next to the boat launch.

This is the starting point for your hike. Once parked, get out of the car/vehicle and listen for the rumbling. You may not hear the rumbling. Conditions must be just right. You hear the rumbling mostly on nice weekends during the day. You will be going towards the rumbling. Are the rumblings Indian's spirits, people complaining about the forest preserve name change, ghost trains, lost lovers or other? Becoming part of the rumbling is an optional side trip.

At this time you are at the Randall & Silver Glen Bike trail and at the Fox River. The Randall & Silver Glen Bike trail runs through the middle of the parking lot. You will be following the bike trail blacktop up the river (compass reading on the trail approx. 80 degrees) and your starting point will be the rock they placed on the trail at the end of the parking lot in the middle of the bike trail. From the rock walk 446 paces if you are an Indian Chief or 514 paces if you are a fair Indian Maiden.

References:
At 38 Chief paces on your left is a place to let loss your inner frustrations.
At 53 Cheif paces is a place on your right to add a little to your inner sole.
At 68 Chief paces is a place to party hardy.
At 446/514 paces is a wood chip trail on your left.
If you come to the trail dead end which is the Fox River bike trail. Sign says "S. Elgin 1.7" & "St Charles 4.6" you have gone too far.

Take the wood chip trail (approx. 330 degrees) for 50 Chief or 63 Maiden paces and check the marker on the left. This is your key code for figuring out some of the trip. The code is based on the letters on the marker. Write down the letters/words above the numbers below for matching reference.

Answer: Good Luck

Continue up the trail to the next path (stone marker on your right). Turn right (50 degrees) on to the blacktop trail heading up hill. After a short distance the trail will start to go down hill and turn to gravel/wood chips. At the bottom of the hill you will cross over the choo choo trail. Continue on till it turns to a blacktop road again. From the edge of the blacktop road continue to walk 160 Chief paces or 195 Maiden paces. At this point you are still on the blacktop road and you are on a curve of the road. Reference point: The road curves and goes 270 degrees one way and 170 degrees the other way. Now you need to figure out 1st and 2nd coded messages.

1st Coded Message:

180 162 118 27 / 3 49 96 61 175 / 106 19 / 23 4 13 / 57 82 15 24 118 .

2nd Coded Message:

79 152 60 / 168 35 149 156 / 6 168 74 66 175 / 94 51 86 9 14 119 130 22 / 58 130 83 / 8 97 16 106 127 132 / 118 130 167 21 10 / 79 113 117 46 ?

Note 1st Answer: ______________

Go back the way you came on the trail, going across the choo choo trail and back up the hill. Once the gravel/woodchips ends and the blacktop begins - you need to stop. Now you need to figure out 3rd and 4th coded message.

3rd Coded Message:

92 44 12 / 76 148 2 122 / 127 76 8 45 10 / 121 106 153 175 85 37 16 6 / 104 16 25 / 152 2 / 166 80 18 26 / 134 21 15 79 71 ?

Note 2nd Answer: ___________________

4th Coded Message:

96 137 114 / 77 106 86 125 / 8 55 6 12 119 134 22 / 145 164 150 / 100 2 46 / 91 101 44 .

Note 3rd Answer: _____________________

On the trail from where the edge of the blacktop starts, walk on the blacktop (3rd Answer) Chief paces. From this point you need to figure out the 5th coded message.

5th Coded Message:

45 80 124 102 / 71 38 / 122 11 86 16 / 105 61 32 4 128 / 3 99 133 / 165 130 56 8 22 86 130 25 / 138 43 / 5 149 / 29 92 131 / 94 57 44 147 13 174 / 118 16 27 83 .
