*11/28/08 -- Brand new log book and box (same stamp).

Featuring more than 50 rides for children and adults, Playland offers free entertainment and has a beach, pool, boardwalk and pier on scenic Long Island Sound, lake boating, picnic area, mini golf and indoor ice-skating.

Playland has the distinction of being America's first totally planned amusement park and prototype for today's successful theme parks. Dedicated as a National Historic Landmark in 1987, Playland has provided family fun since 1928. Often referred to as "Rye Playland", it is America's only government owned and operated amusement park.

For a map, schedule of hours, driving directions, etc. go to http://www.ryeplayland.org.
There is also a haunted house in the park on October weekends. For info: Scaredbythesound.com

Note: There is a fee to park when the amusement park is open, but wandering around the park, boardwalk, lake, etc. is free. You can buy tickets for a single ride or none.
However, the box is located near the parking lot, so unless you can find a creative place to leave your car, you will have to pay to find this box. (In winter, there is no fee to park.) Hopefully, you will combine a visit to this historic and wonderful fun-for-all place with your letterbox hunt!

This box should be accessible year-round, though when the leaves fall, you will need to use extra care not to be seen at the letterbox site.

Clues: Please bring your own ink for this stamp.
Once in the parking lot, find aisle 5 (near the end of Kiddyland). Follow it to the far end where the trees line the edge of the lot. Locate the "No Parking Anytime" sign, and look beyond the sign to see a stone wall with
a metal fence on top. Climb onto the lower portion of the wall, and look for an old rusted pipe on the ground to your right. Facing the wall at the beginning of the pipe, at about 4 feet off the ground, reach into a crevice and remove two rocks on top of the box in the wall to find your dragon. You should not be able to see the box at all if the rocks have been appropriately replaced. *Please replace the rocks as you found them so others can also find the box.* Hopefully, you will also visit the real dragon -- it's my favorite ride.
Enjoy your day, and let me know when you find it!

This is Rye's first box, but I hope to be adding more in the future!
