Difficulty: Fairly easy
Terrain: Flat with one steep incline of about 15'.....Use Caution there.
Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands. .

To get to Cairo take West Virginia U.S. Highway 50, west 48 miles from Clarksburg or east 26 miles from Parkersburg and then south 4 miles on State Route 31 to Cairo. Travel the last four miles slowly on a beautiful winding country road, cross a green steel bridge and find yourself in the town of Cairo on Main Street.
Thanks to JugglerMouse for help on these direction and you should plan to look for the Cairo Series letterboxes mixed in with looking for this one.

Clues:
Upon entering Cairo you will see R. C. Marshall's Hardware and General Mercantile Store on the left and across from it another green bridge across a branch of the Hughes River. After looking for 3 of the Cairo Series boxes (I could not find the Bicycle one), cross this bridge, making a left and take the second road going right, which is after the rail trail (I think it is called Railroad). This road will lead you to Silver Run Road (no street sign) which goes right before the walk suspension bridge. Follow this road, which turns to gravel, for approx 2.7 miles where it will curve sharply right and cross the old rail right of way, which is now a bike/hike trail. Turn left onto the trail and park at the "Stop no unauthorized vehicles" sign and pull off to be out of the way. From the "Stop" sign, walk forward on the trail 76 steps and look right, up the bank, for the double trunked tree. The Mountaineer is in a black pouch under rocks at the base of this tree. You can also reach this location from the road above going on up to the 4th Cairo Series box (park by the blue pipe/stairs pull out) . Please be discrete when retrieving, stamping in and replacing the pouch. Also, please replace the contents into the double baggies and reseal well to keep the log dry. As you are leaving use caution to not back into the guard posts when backing up and make sure the signal light on the old railway signal tower is green giving you the authorization to depart the right of way. Ho Ho Hope you enjoyed your day of boxing in this pleasant and pretty little town.
