Getting to the Moose River Plains Recreation Area is easy. Old Forge is just 45 minutes north of Utica on Route 28. Pass through Old Forge to Inlet. Just past Inlet, you will see the signs to Limekiln Road - turn right. The entry gate is 2 miles from Route 28 on the left hand side of the road. Park at the registration booth area. While visiting here in August we were met by a hawk/falcon ( not sure which) that would fly and land, just in front of our car, in the trees lining the road. If you are a bird watcher or just a nature lover you will enjoy a drive through the plains. Drive slowly though and watch for rocks and small holes in the roadway.

CLUE: Stand with your back to the registration booth. Looking straight ahead you will see one privies. Walk towards it. When you reach the door look to your left where you will see a tree growing from a large rock. Under the roots is the Moose River Plains Letterbox.

ATTENTION: One of the privies has been removed and since I haven't been there since this happen I don't know which one it was so keep that in mind when looking to the large rock.
