Easy hike of about three miles.
Bring ink and pen.

Go to the West Hartford Reservoir located on Farmington Ave. route 4. Park in the brand new lot as you enter the property. Park as far in as possible and follow signs for the red loop.

When you get to the main road around the res, turn left and follow the white line until you get within sight of water (reservoir #3) ahead of you. There's also a map board there but no map. Before either of these, there's a paved road on the left that you need to take. The pavement soon disintegrates but follow the road until a 4 way intersection. Left is a blue blazed trail that will eventually take you to route 4 and right goes to blue storage tanks so stay straight for approximately 25 feet to where the blue blazed trail goes into the woods to the right and will eventually take you to route 44. You'll be staying on the blue trail for the rest of the way, walking past Think Pink and while going uphill look right for a glimpse of the blue storage tanks. At the next intersection go right onto a more "open" trail, finding a blaze part way up on a boulder to the right. At the top of the hill the trail goes left into the woods and past some great rock formations coming to an area of man downed trees. At the next double blaze go right finding more rock formations to dazzle the eye, coming to an old woods road, bear right (but look left to see my favorite rock mountain, reminded me of the Titanic). Just after the slight bend and just after the rock cliffs that you've been following for awhile, look on the right for a split rock and looking in the crevice could net you another F. (12-09-2011) I'm told that tree clearing crews have piled debris around this rock.
Be careful not to be seen by bike traffic in this area.
Stamp in, rehide carefully etc.

For box number two (which used to be the bonus box so ignore bonus clues in the Mane Thing log book) go back the way you came until you get to that long ago 4 way intersection, now going right on blue. Stay on blue, coming very close to the "main" reservoir road, where the trail takes a sharp right, going more into the woods. Stay on blue until you get to a woods road where blue turns right (no right turn blaze today) from the last tree on the right before this turn, turn around and go back 50 steps. Look on the left for a neat, small, roundish, funky and lumpy looking boulder. 22 steps into the woods beyond this guy is a downed tree. Look in the roots.
