This hike, and the PCT-Upper Lake hike, are my tribute to Pacific Crest Trail through-hikers! May I one day have the guts try a through-hike.

Start from the Jude Lake trailhead where the PCT crosses Road 4220 just before the Olallie Lake store. It is 3.5 miles each way, add .5 mile for a side trip to Russ Lake. This hike basically flat, although the short hike to Russ Lake is a bit hilly.

Because this area is fairly dry in the summer, I thought I would plant some Mountain Flowers in the area, 4 of them actually.

At the 4-way intersection, there is no sign to tell you how far you've gone. (Couple of miles?) Notice the spindly little pine tree in the center of the intersection. From there, take a reading of 60 degrees magnetic, and go 4 steps to a 1x1.5' rock. Behind it, under a smaller flat rock is Mountain Flowers #1.

The left fork goes downhill to 4220-019. The right fork goes onto Warm Springs Indian Reservation land. The middle fork is marked with a small PCT sign, go this way.

When you reach the sign "Maintained by the Oregon Mule Skinners", look under the 10" flat rock between the downed tree base and the rock pile, for #2. Please rehide well, as this is right on the trail.

Continue to the next intersection.

Follow the signs (PCT) to Jude Lake. When you reach the lake, follow the trail clockwise, over the wooden footbridge. Pass the campfire ring on your right, to the tree roots sticking up on the left. Count 10 steps to a log on the left, crunched between 2 trees a ways off the trail. Go there. Between the second log and the larger of the two trees is Mountain Flowers #3, under a rock.

Return the way you came to the intersection with a sign pointing to Russ Lake. Go there. When you reach it, continue counterclockwise. When you reach 3 Douglas firs lined up along the trail, with parallel lines running along the ground behind them, stop. Go behind the trees -- behind the middle tree is a skinny tree and a bigger one. Stand in front of this bigger tree, facing the water. Go 9 steps at 315 degrees. On the right side of the right twin, under bark, is #4.

Return to the intersection. You can follow the Russ Lake trail straight ahead to Olallie Meadows for a longer hike, or turn left and return to the Jude Lake trailhead along the PCT, the way you came.
