This is box number 1 in a 7-part series. This is the 1st series placed through the collaborative efforts of the WIZARDS OF OZ. Who are the Wizards? Craftymouse, Dandelion, WINK and Tarheel; all of us from Oswego!

The stamp is carved by CRAFTYMOUSE, and AWESOME!! It is well worth the trip.

Ink is included in the box, but you should bring your own pen. And bug spray! LOTS of bug spray!

This box is planted in the snow capital of the Eastern United States. It is placed along the Salmon River Reservoir in North-Eastern Oswego County. Just when you are pretty sure that you’ve gone the wrong way, go a little bit further, and it’ll be there. The box is located at the “Little America” DEC Fishing Access point. This is off of NYS Route 2 in Little America, NY.
To get there you need to travel 11.5 miles from where NYS Route 2 crosses over I-81 in the Pulaski area. Some of this is tricky so follow along. If you are using I-81 North, get off at the Pulaski exit, and go right. Head down and take a left onto NYS Route 2A. You’ll cross a bridge. Keep going. This will run parallel to 81 a brief moment and come to a stop at NYS 2. Take the right here, and begin the 11.5 mile jaunt. Along the way you’ll go through Richland, see the Richland airport (pasture with lights), and visit Orwell (don’t blink). At the Richland Junction you’ll do a left, and a quick right. It’s all still NYS 2. Eleven and a half miles down the road, on the right, is C.C.C. Rd. There is a DEC sign stating the Little America Fishing Access. Take a right, and follow it to the end. The pavement will end, but you keep going. At the very bottom of the hill is the DEC Parking Lot.

GOOGLE/MapQuest it :)

Clues:
On the North side of the parking lot is the trail entrance (Without a compass- it is the side of the parking lot that, as you face the res., is on your right side. The TRAIL runs parallel to the road you just came down). There are lots of char remains from many camp fires in this area. The trail will pass directly between two trees. The left side one is dead and weathered, the right side one is alive. Head up the hill towards a “Y” tree. Pass the trail on your right that heads further up the hill. Continue on past “Fire Point” (but stop to take it all in. It is beautiful and silent. I love this spot. It over-looks the Reservoir. AWESOME!). The trail proceeds along, just above the shore banks. Cross over a couple of moist spots and drainage/run-off spots. You’re going good as you pass a rough-barked Tri-tree. Up ahead are two trees that have been felled onto the path in a “V” shape. At the point is a twin tree. By the roots of the tree nearest the twin tree is a rock. Under this rock is the treasure you seek. A Red bird of fancy :)
