“It’s Been a Quiet Week in My Hometown” Letterbox
A Hitchhiker Hostel

For those who aren’t in the know, a Hitchhiker Hostel (HHH) is a letterbox in which you are guaranteed to find a hitchhiker! Such a deal! The letterbox itself has a stamp and logbook, but it’s roomy enough to have a number of HHs hanging around inside waiting for a ride out. Since there’s usually a pretty good turnover of hitchhikers, a hostel attracts repeat visits from local letterboxers who want to trade.

The rule is simple. Don’t take a HH unless you leave another HH in its place. It’s a one-for-one trade. Of course, you are welcome to stamp into all the HHs even if you don’t have an exchange. The trickiest thing about a HHH is the complicated stamping in process. It’s really easy to miss a step, so here’s a to-do list:
1. Stamp your signature stamp into the HHH’s logbook. Don’t forget to date the book and let us know where you’re from!
2. Stamp the HHH’s stamp into your own logbook.
3. Stamp your signature stamp into the logbooks of each HH in the hostel.
4. Stamp each HH’s stamp into your own logbook.
5. If you’re trading a HH, make sure the HH you’re taking has the HHH’s stamp image before you go.
6. If you’re trading a HH, make sure the HH you’ve brought has the HHH’s stamp image in its logbook.
7. AND, before taking any HHs away with you, make sure the HH’s image is in the HHH’s logbook.

Clear enough? Good! Just be careful that all the HHs get back into their own bags.
Now for the clues to THIS Hitchhiker Hostel!

You’ll know you’re there when you see:
Brick over hearth,
Flowers under glass,
Cat by the corners.

Too much of a poser?
Assume a thoughtful position
Stands next to the Garrison.

Clear enough? No? Just let Chanticleer lead you along!
