Located along route 28 in Raquette Lake is a four corner intersection. If coming from the Old Forge/Inlet area you will notice a very large boulder on your left. On your right is a sign directing you to Sagamore. It is the boulder that you are to be most interested in.

When the Adirondacks were formed these massive rocks - glacier erratics - were left behind as the glaciers themselves disappeared.
Start out by facing this rock (and of course read the plaque about Sir Johnson and his stay at the Lake hundreds of years ago). Carefully walk left around the rock and stand with your back to the birch tree that appears to be holding the rock up. As you look straight ahead you will see another outcropping of erratics. The one on your left will direct you to your treasure. As you walk left, being careful not to stumble or trample the flora below, you will see birch limbs and bark lying against a slight overhang of one rock. It is behind these limbs that what you seek lies secreted from sight.
