I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS BOX IS MISSING.
Trout Ponds Park, Newark Valley, NY
http://www.tier.net/nvhistory/articles/1994/troutpnd.htm
DIRECTIONS: Turn onto Whig Street from Rt 38 at traffic light (right if headed South; left if headed North). Cross bridge and bear left onto Maple Ave. Follow signs for Trout Ponds.
HISTORY: "The Newark Valley trout ponds and pleasure grounds are purely a private enterprise, but are of such a character that a brief mention of them is proper. They are the property of Norman K. Waring, and were begun in 1869 and opened to the public in 1872. The grounds are abundantly supplied with water, well stocked with fish, and good buildings are provided for the public accommodation. Various proprietors have undertaken the management of the grounds, but they have as often reverted to the founder." - taken from a late 1800s account of the history of Newark Valley

The park became public property in the 1950s. There are no longer ponds stocked with trout, but there is a nice playground and picnic pavillion surrounded by two streams.
ESTIMATED HIKE TIME & DIFFICULTY: This is a drive in, drive out box.
CLUES: Find the island of trees between two diamonds. Behind a double trunked tree with a bend, under a pile of rocks, is what you seek.
